Research

By holding together both "ecumenical" and "cultural" in its title, its ethos, and its work, the Institute has bound itself to a journey into human integration and wholeness. Institute projects are interdisciplinary because the fullness of intellectual inquiry is relevant to the life of the church, and culture is the medium through which spirituality and theology are expressed. While theology and religious studies most obviously resonant with the Institute's identity and purpose, specialists in all disciplines who are drawn to explore the links between religion and culture are part of the Institute's constituency.
The Institute brings together well-trained scholars, researchers, and other program participants -- creative, articulate men and women who seek a place for careful thought, inquiry, and prayer. The Institute's connection to Saint John's Abbey and University not only offers scholars quality research resources, but also imparts a peaceful, prayerful, and hospitable perspective to scholarship. Guests of the Institute are integrated into the fabric of our communities and given access to all campus resources.
